Sats problem solving questions year 6

'It is an excellent resource for researching any part of the curriculum (maths and English) and clearly shows me how things are taught so that I can replicate the method at home. It means I am helping my child, not confusing her.'

Plenty of problem solving to do in Year 6, together with explaining why particular methods have been chosen. Recognising patterns in number and predicting sequences are both important steps towards using algebra at High School.

Challenge your children using our KS2 maths word problems resources. Here you can find multiplication word problems, division word problems, fraction word problems and more to help them develop their problem solving skills.

KS2 Maths Paper 2 and Paper 3 are now known as the "Reasoning" papers and each contain 35 marks worth of more problem-solving based Maths. Children will need to apply their KS2 Maths skills (as used in Paper 1) to a variety of topics including:

  • Geometry (including coordinates, rotation, reflection, symmetry etc).
  • Ratios (and how to interpret them from fractions, percentages etc).
  • Charts and tables.
  • Units and measures (including time, temperature, money, weight, volume etc).
  • Shapes and their properties (including triangles, hexagons and their angles).
  • Roman numerals.
  • Mean, median and mode.
  • A propositional logic formula , also called Boolean expression , is built from variables , operators AND ( conjunction , also denoted by ∧), OR ( disjunction , ∨), NOT ( negation , ¬), and parentheses. A formula is said to be satisfiable if it can be made TRUE by assigning appropriate logical values (. TRUE, FALSE) to its variables. The Boolean satisfiability problem ( SAT ) is, given a formula, to check whether it is satisfiable. This decision problem is of central importance in various areas of computer science , including theoretical computer science , complexity theory , algorithmics , cryptography and artificial intelligence .

I am afraid that we don't have the answers to the Year 6 questions in our collection - this collection was a sample of a series and did not contain the teacher guides with answers - this books is still available to purchase - ISBN: 9781846914782

Tackle challenging questions using a variety of mathematical skills with our range of Maths Problem Solving resources for KS2 students. Featuring maths word problems, investigations and games designed in a number of engaging themes.

The papers use the cognitive and content domains from the national curriculum tests allowing teachers to test pupils’ thinking skills and intellectual processes. And unlike some assessment schemes, which only test the curriculum from that year group, our papers provide content from earlier years, giving teachers a more complete assessment of pupils’ understanding and progress.

If you don't get a problem right on either our tests or a real SAT test, first try to solve the problem yourself. If you still can't get it right, ask a friend or a teacher. If your fundamentals are weak and you need extra help check out our recommended resources .

Further problems suitable for GCSE mathematics students can also be found on the Integral Online Resources website. Some examples of these problems are below. Access to the complete set of problems is free when a school/college registers with the FMSP.

This article, written for primary teachers, discusses what we mean by 'problem-solving skills' and draws attention to NRICH tasks which can help develop specific skills.

Word problems based on perimeter, area, time and distance, which are set out on address labels so the children can stick them in their books.

Word Problems - key stage 2 sats questions organised by levels 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Mark scheme and notes also added as an additional file. Word files for easy editing....
