A positive attitude to homework helps children develop a positive attitude to learning. By encouraging and praising successful work children become more confident in their learning. These guidelines provide information about fostering good life-long learning and study habits, the importance of administering level-appropriate homework to students, and the different types of homework that may be undertaken in schools
Homework is used to consolidate the learning that is taking place in the classroom and to set in place routines and a work ethic that will hold them in good stead for high school, further studies at TAFE, University or Apprenticeship Training.

Homework should never be too onerous nor should it ever create stress within the pupil’s family. If parents have any concerns they should not hesitate to contact the school. Normally, more than one day will be allowed for the completion of a homework task, except where daily practice is to be encouraged . reading, spellings and times tables.
Learners can expect to receive approximately 40 minutes of homework per day consisting of any combination of the following:
Mathematics (20 minutes).
English, Afrikaans, Natural Science, Social Sciences (History, Geography), Life Skills (20 minutes).
School homework policies must be communicated to staff, students, parents and caregivers, particularly at the time of student enrolment.
Furthermore, teachers can utilize homework as an opportunity to differentiate learning for all students. Homework should rarely be given with a blanket "one size fits all" approach. Homework provides teachers with a significant opportunity to meet each student where they are and truly extend learning. A teacher can give their higher level students more challenging assignments while also filling gaps for those students who may have fallen behind. Teachers who use homework as an opportunity to differentiate we not only see increased growth in their students, but they will also find they have more time in class to dedicate to whole group instruction .
